The LA Philharmonic performs Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the Hollywood Bowl!

So anyone that knows me, knows that I am a “Potterhead” aka a Harry Potter fanatic. They also know that I am a former flute player and music supporter. So when we were invited to check out this performance by the LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl I was overwhelmed with anticipation! The prospect of mixing two of my favorite things together in one show was beyond exciting. The question is, did the show live up to my expectations?

YESSSSS! What a fantastically magical show we experienced last night! It was everything that I had hoped for and more! Conductor Justin Freer opened the show with a greeting and proceeded to lead the LA Phil in bringing one of our favorite Harry Potter films to life musically. They played so well that I literally overheard many people say out loud (including myself),  that they forgot that they were actually playing live! Loved the fact that they had a harp as a part of the performance as it added a nice visual touch. Catherine Ransom Karoly (principal flute) was great on the flute solos and all of the other principals played nicely.

Looking around at the crowd was very interesting as you saw all four Hogwarts houses represented (#TeamGryffindor for me) although I must say I was surprised that more people didn’t dress up in HP attire. Granted, it was an extremely hot night in LA so it probably wasn’t the wisest thing to don full robes which of course I took the liberty of doing as a dedicated fan lol! The few of us that did fully dress up though were actually asked to do photo ops by many of the attendees which did turn into a fun time and was good for social media posts.

The setting of being able to watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban under the night sky in the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Philharmonic performing the score of the film was brilliant! It was an unforgettable experience that was enjoyed by all… young, old, families, dates, friends, etc. Hearing the cheers as each character appeared on the screen for the first time was quite entertaining and looking around to see random wands in the air was quite a site.

This is a show that we highly would recommend to anyone and are glad that they are continuing this concert series including hundreds of performances across more than 35 countries around the world through 2018. For more info:

Thanks CineConcerts, Hollywood Bowl & L.A. Phil for an unforgettable experience last night!

P.S. The seats were great!
